2023/24 Ghana Premier League: Karela United beat Medeama to avoid relegation

Published on: 16 June 2024

Karela United picked a shocking 1-0 win over defending champions Medeama SC at the Tarkwa Akoon Park on Sunday the final day of the season.

The Pride and Passion lads needed the win to put their destiny in their own hands instead of depending on other results.

Karela United finished the season in 12th place with 46 points from 34 games while Medeama ended the season in seventh place with 49 points.

The first half of the game produced no goals as the two sides headed into the break with the score still goalless.

As it looked like the game was heading for a draw, Abdul Basit popped up with the big goal for the visitors with eight minutes to the end of the game.

With the win, Karela United avoided going down while Great Olympics joined Bofoakwa Tano and RTU as the three teams to get relegated.

Karela will be looking to make things right next season after another near relegation escape.
