2026 World Cup Qualifiers: Kotoko striker Steven Mukwala secures spot in Uganda squad to face Botswana and Algeria

Published on: 23 May 2024

Asante Kotoko striker Steven Desse Mukwala has been included in coach Paul Put's 27-man squad for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Botswana and Algeria.

The Cranes of Uganda will take on Botswana on June 7 before facing Algeria on June 10, 2024. They will return to Mandela National Stadium, Namboole for the first time since 2019.

Mukwala has been in fine form for the Porcupine Warriors, despite the clubs inconsistent performance in the Ghana Premier League.

The forward has been Kotoko's leading scorer in the Ghana Premier League, netting 11 goals and providing 2 assists in 25 games.

His outstanding performance has earned a call up ahead of the World Cup qualifications slated for next month.

Mukwala was part of the Uganda squad that played against the Black Stars during the March international break. He converted from the spot as the Cranes held Ghana to a 2-2 draw.

The Cranes are expected to enter residential camp on 30th May 2024.
