Emmanuel Adebayor tips Serhou Guirassy to win 2024 African Footballer of the Year ahead of Mohammed Kudus

Former Togo international Emmanuel Adebayor has expressed his belief that Guinean sensation Serhou Guirassy is poised to claim the esteemed CAF Player of the Year award in 2024.

The former Arsenal and Man City striker does not see Mohammed Kudus deserving of the award this year despite his impressive first season with West Ham.

After an exceptional season with VfB Stuttgart, the Bundesliga breakout star, Guirassy, has firmly positioned himself as one of the leading candidates for the prestigious accolade.

The French-born Guinean striker impressively secured second place in the Bundesliga Golden Boot race, narrowly trailing the prolific Harry Kane.

Throughout the 2023/24 Bundesliga campaign, Guirassy showcased his exceptional talent by netting 28 goals and providing 2 assists in 28 league matches.

Adebayor, a recipient of African football's most coveted award in 2008, alongside beating Egyptian veteran Mohamed Aboutrika and Ghanaian legendary midfielder Michael Essien, staunchly advocates for Guirassy's deserving recognition.

“Of course [he deserves to win],” Adebayor told Afrik-Foot. “He had an extraordinary season with Stuttgart, he is a striker who scored a lot.

“He will be one of the contenders, that's for sure, especially since Salah has not scored as much, Victor Osimhen did not have the same season as the year of the title. It's open this year. If it's Guirassy, it will be well deserved.”
