New York City FC II suffered a 3-0 defeat against New Mexico United in the US Open Cup match held at the Belson Stadium.

The defeat was partly attributed to the sending off of Ghanaian defender, Samuel Kwaku Owusu, in the 55th minute of the game for violent conduct.

The first goal of the match was scored in the 50th minute by Avionne Flanagan of New Mexico United. Flanagan's left-footed shot from the left side of the box found its way to the bottom right corner, assisted by Marco Micaletto.

Five minutes later, Samuel Kwaku Owusu, who had started the game, was shown a red card, leaving New York City FC II with ten men for the remainder of the game.

New Mexico United took advantage of the situation and scored their second goal in the 65th minute. Talen Maples' right-footed shot from the center of the box found the bottom left corner, assisted by Marco Micaletto with a cross following a corner.

The third and final goal of the match was scored in the 86th minute by Anthony Herbert of New Mexico United. Herbert's header from the right side of the six-yard box found the bottom right corner, following a corner.

New York City FC II will now turn their attention to the MLS MLS NEXT Pro, where they will play New England Revolution II on Sunday, May 26th.
