Hearts of Oak coach Aboubakar Ouattara kicks against wholesale sacking of players despite disappointing season

Despite a disappointing season, Hearts of Oak coach Aboubakar Ouattara says his outfit will not embark on a major squad overhaul.

The Ghanaian giants narrowly escaped relegation in the recently concluded Ghana Premier League campaign following a dramatic 3-2 win over Bechem United on final day.

The Phobians had a difficult start to the season and Ouattara’s mid-season arrival could not make any difference for the club as they finished 14th at the end of the season.

Following the mass departure of players from rival club Kotoko, there have been suggestions that the disappointing season will lead to significant changes in the Hearts of Oak squad.

But the Ivoirian tactician thinks otherwise, as he believes sacking of players is not the antidote to the problem.

"You are sacking 100 and bringing 200, what are the results?" Ouattara said in an interview with SportsObama TV. "Let us go slowly. When you go slowly, you have a 100% chance to achieve something. Sacking 11, 22, 100 players, we bring in 100 and we start again, you are wasting money."

Hearts of Oak are the second most successful club in Ghana, with 21 league titles, and have also won the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup.
