Real Tamale United (RTU) has issued a public apology for allegedly using unregistered players in a recent league game against Dreams FC in the 2023-2024 Ghana Premier League season.

The club's statement comes after an 8-1 loss to Dreams FC in an outstanding week 28 fixture.

The unusual scoreline was a result of RTU players boycotting the game due to six months of unpaid salaries. In response, the club fielded different players but retained the names of the boycotting players on the match sheet. This decision has led to official charges from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) against Real Tamale United and some of its officials.

In a statement, RTU expressed regret for their actions and sought mercy and sympathy from the public and the GFA. The club assured that such an incident would not occur again and stated its commitment to reorganizing and building a team that would make everyone proud.

This is not the first time RTU players have threatened to boycott a match due to unpaid salaries in the 2023/24 season. The club has faced a challenging season both on and off the pitch, culminating in its relegation from the top flight. RTU will play its final game of the season against Accra Great Olympics.
