GFA Referees Manager, Alexander Kotey has disclosed that some of the Catch Them Young Referees will have the chance to officiate some league matches during the 2024/25 season.

The Catch Them Youth Referees programme is an initiative of the GFA administration led by President Kurt Okraku.

The aim is to train and nurture referees from a young age to instil in them a high level of professionalism and integrity.

Speaking to the media team of GFA, Referees Manager Alex Kotey called for support for the referees.

“We intend to launch the 'Respect & Support Them' campaign. All stakeholders must support these young referees to excel.

“Some of the catch them young referees will officiate league matches next season,” Alex Kotey said.

Meanwhile, the Referees' Manager has stressed the importance of having physically fit referees.

This he says ensures referees perform at the top level.

“For every referee physical fitness is absolutely critical. You might have the technical know-how but if you are not fit enough to keep up with the pace of a match, you will be prone to making errors,” Alex Kotey said.
