INSIDER: Liverpool bid for Keane \'but he\'s Man Utd bound\'

Published on: 31 May 2017

Manchester United are set to beat Liverpool to the signing of Burnley defender Michael Keane.

That's the opinion of celebrated football journalist Jonathan Northcroft, of The Times.

Keane rose through United's academy ranks before making his first-team debut against Aldershot in the EFL Cup in October 2011.

A move to Burnley has been making of the England international.

And despite competition from Liverpool, Northcroft believes a return to his old side is on the cards once the transfer window reopens on July 1.

He tweeted: "Plus [Liverpool] interest in Ox & Keane bid. Klopp likes young/English. Fans crave big foreign names but he'll look at how well Lallana/Hend/Clyne do."

And, asked to clarify the Keane claim, he added: "Not bid as in formal transfer bid, but as in "attempt". Liverpool made approach but he's United bound."
