Insider says Man Utd now ahead of Chelsea in Alex Sandro battle

Manchester United have jumped ahead of Chelsea in the race for Juventus fullback Alex Sandro.

Duncan Castles, of the Daily Record, has revealed United are leading the race for the Brazil international.

He told the Transfer Window Podcast: "He's a guy who has been linked with Chelsea all through the summer, a player Manchester City looked to sign but eventually went for Benjamin Mendy instead.

“He's unhappy at Juventus, he's pushing to leave the club.

“He's in the position of being regarded as the best left-back available in European football at present.

“For Manchester United, it has been an obvious weakness during Jose Mourinho's time at the club, they haven't been able to change left-back.

“They would have done in the summer but didn't have funds available.

“United are now exploring if they can get Sandro out of Juventus. You don't get players out of Juventus, particularly in mid-season, without a careful strategy and probably a large transfer fee.

“But they are, at present, leading the race for Alex Sandro."
