The ongoing contract dispute between Inter and captain Mauro Icardi could finally be nearing a conclusion, with the sides set for a meeting on either Wednesday or Thursday as they aim to reach an agreement.

Although both parties are keen for the player to pen a contract extension at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, they remain quite a way apart in their current stance and will have to meet halfway during this week’s discussions.

La Gazzetta dello Sport report that the long-awaited first sit-down between director Giuseppe Marotta and Icardi’s wife and agent Wanda Nara will take place on Wednesday or Thursday as they aim to reach an agreement.

The club will put a €7 million per year offer on the table for the Argentina international which is €1m more than their previous offer to the player, which was rejected.

That deal will also see his contract extended until 2023, while also removing the €110m release clause which is currently in place for foreign clubs, while Wanda is aiming to secure €9m per season for her client.

Club president Steven Zhang has now returned to China after spending time in Italy in December but before leaving for Asia, he did instruct the club’s hierarchy to reach an agreement with Icardi as soon as possible and to avoid any further delays.

However, the player himself has taken to social media to deny the report that this week will be decisive in terms of a new deal, claiming on Instagram that ‘there has never been a fixed date’ for a meeting about his future.
