Interim coach Lionel Scaloni admits he's uncertain if Lionel Messi will return to the national team, but is optimistic for the newcomers to the side.

Lionel Messi's former Argentina teammate, Carlos Tevez has said that the player must do whatever makes him and his family happy when deciding on international retirement.

Carlos Tevez urges Lionel Messi to rest and think about his future with the Argentina national team because he's one of the nation's biggest idols.

Inter Milan forward Lautaro Martinez will miss Argentina's upcoming friendlies to be played in the United States against Guatemala and Colombia due to a calf injury.

The 21-year-old was expected to have a chance to impress interim manager Lionel Scaloni with Barcelona's Lionel Messi, Manchester City's Sergio Aguero and AC Milan's Gonzalo Higuain left out of the squad.

"Lautaro Martinez was subjected to studies in his left calf and it has been decided that he will not participate in the next two friendlies," the Argentina national team confirmed via their official Twitter account.

Martinez was included in Argentina's provisional squad for the summer World Cup in Russia but failed to make Jorge Sampaoli's final 23-man team.

Cristian Pavon, Angel Correa, Giovanni Simeone and Paulo Dybala are Scaloni's alternatives in attack in the coming friendlies with Martinez's club teammate Mauro Icardi also doubtful to take part.

Argentina are yet to confirm whether Martinez will withdraw and return to Milan to start his recovery or if he will stay in U.S. with the rest of the squad.
