Inter Milan are reportedly interested in making a surprise move for the diminishing Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney.

According toCalciomercato, Inter could attempt to do a deal next summer for the 31-year old, although Sven GoranEriksson is also rumoured to be interested in bringing him to China, with talk of a ludicrous£500k per week deal.

Rooney has been left out of the Manchester United starting XI by manager Jose Mourinho in recent weeks, withboth Paul Pogba and Juan Mata his preferred options in the No 10 role.

Afterthe Mirrorreported that Mourinho told Rooney he will have to leave the club to play regularly, it could pave the way for the likes of Inter to make a move.

It's not the first time England's most capped outfield player has been linked with an Old Trafford exit however, so it remains to be seen whether he will want to stay at the club.

Another possible exit, according tothe Sun, is summer signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan who arrived from Borussia Dortmund for £30m, but has failed to force his way into Mourinho's plans as of yet.

The Armenian was handed a start in United's 2-1 Premier League loss against rivals Manchester City, but was axed at half-time.Since then he hasn't featured, although he did pick up an injury and only recently returned to full fitness.

It would seem strange if Mourinho were to give up on his new signing after so few appearances, but the Special One is clearly not averse to making tough decisions.
