Inter Milan Rule Out Ever Banega for Unknown Period Following Twisted Knee

Published on: 12 February 2017

Ever Banega hasreportedlybeen ruled out for an undefined period of timeafter twisting his knee in a training ground incident.

The midfielder, who has been less than impressive since joining Inter Milan from Sevilla in the summer of 2016, was not included in the squad for the game against Empoli on Sunday.

Since his freesigning, Banega has featured 18 times for Inter, scoring two goals and picking up four assists in the process. The Argentine, however, has not featured for the side since late January after struggling to cement a first-team spot in the side.

Whilst the 28-year old has put in some superb performances so far this season, finding a level of consistency has proven difficult for the midfielder and it has been clear that pressing the opposition is something that is very new to the former Sevilla man.

Since falling out of favour, speculation has begun to surround the Argentinian, with a potential move to Chinese Super League side Tianjin Quanjian said to be on the cards.

The proposed fee, rumoured to be somewhere in the region of £25m, would surely tempt Stefano Piolo after picking the player up for free.

Tianjin Quanjian are now one of the better-known Chinese clubs after they hit the headlines recently with their pursuit of Chelsea's Diego Costa, who they were said to bewilling to pay over half a million pounds per week.

Inter were also without captain Mauro Icardi and Ivan Perisic, who were both serving bans for red cards that they received in the loss to Juventus a week ago.

Poli's side went on to win the game 2-0 anyway, thanks to goals from Eder and Antonio Candreva who kept the side in fourth, level on points with Atalanta who have two games in hand.
