Inter set to land Atletico Madrid defender on free transfer

Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin looks set to land in Italy this summer, as he has reportedly agreed to join Inter on a free transfer.

The 32-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season, and despite reported interest from the likes of Manchester United, it appears the Uruguayan’s next destination is Serie A.

Sky Sport Italia reports Godin will sign a two-year contract with Inter, along with an option for a third season.

While an official announcement likely won’t be made until the summer, it’s believed only minor details must be resolved before an agreement is reached.

Godin joined Atletico in 2010 and formed a stellar partnership with current Inter defender Miranda, as they won the La Liga crown in 2013/14.

It remains to be seen what this news means for Miranda, as the Brazilian has reportedly asked to leave the Nerazzurri in January after falling behind Milan Skriniar and Stefan de Vrij in the pecking order.

No doubt his chances of playing come next season, with the addition of Godin, won’t improve.
