The 21-year-old was called up to La Albiceleste’s squad for games against Guatemala and Colombia as they look to move on from a disappointing World Cup exit.
Martinez is expected to be a key figure for the national team moving forward, but that will have to wait for the time being as tests have ruled him out due to a left calf problem.
The Inter man was unavailable for last weekend’s 3-0 victory over Bologna due to the problem, and it’s expected he will return to Milan on Saturday to begin his rehabilitation.
It’s believed the injury isn’t a long-term concern, with the Nerazzurri and Martinez hopeful he will recover in time for their match against Parma on September 15.
