It is still early days - Winfred Dormon reacts to Chris Hughton's first two games

Former Dreams FC head coach, Winfred Dormon, has praised Black Stars coach, Chris Hughton following his perfect start but says it is early days to celebrate.

The former Brighton boss has signed a 21-month deal as the new head coach of the Black Stars.

Hughton recorded a 1-0 win over Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium before holding the Palancas Negras at the Estádio 11 de Novembro in Luanda in the reverse leg of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] qualifiers.

Lucas Joao scored from the penalty spot in the 51st minute but got level after substitute Osman Bukari swept home from close range off a cross from fellow substitute Joseph Paintsil.

However, Dormon speaking to Citi Sports lauded the former Newcastle United manager for his impressive start.

“It was a justifiable penalty call and they scored and this is where the coaching came in as good substitutions were made. Substitutes came on and really impacted the game so you have to give it to the technical team," he said.

"They did a yeoman’s job. You have to give it to Chris Hughton but it is still early days. We still have a long way to go," he added.

Ghana leads Group E with eight points and has a point advantage over second-placed Central African Republic.

The Black Stars will wrap up their qualifiers against Madagascar and the Central African Republic in June.
