It is wrong to allow NC Cup winners to represent Ghana in Africa - Rev. Osei Kofi

Former Black Stars and Kotoko forward, Rev. Osei Kofi has kicked against allowing winners of the Normalization Committee Special Competition to represent Ghana in Africa.

Kotoko and Ashanti Gold who were winners of tier 1 and tier 2 of the NC Competition last year were given the nod to represent the West Africa Country in the CAF Champions League and Confederations Cup respectively.

Following an unimpressive display, both teams were sent home packing at the preliminary stages as they failed to reach even the group stage.

Giving his thoughts on why Ghanaian clubs are unable to excel in Africa these days, Rev. Osei Kofi has attributed it to the low standard of the league in the country.

“The low standard of our league always brings the early exit of our clubs from Africa competitions”, the celebrated footballer told West FM.

He further noted that it is wrong to allow clubs who won the NC Cup competitions last year to play in CAF’s inter-club competitions.

“It's wrong to use Normalization Competition to play Africa competitions”, Rev. Osei Kofi shared.

It is unclear what will happen to the football season in the country, but should it be canceled, it is possible the winners of tier 1 and 2 of the NC Competition will represent Ghana in Africa next season.
