Defender Alidu Seidu says playing in front of the Kumasi fans at the Baba Yara Stadium was a great experience.

The Clermont Foot defender featured in Black Stars' 2-1 win over Central African Republic (CAR) on Thursday in the final Group E game of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Having conceded in the early moment of the game, the Black Stars roared back with Mohammed Kudus and Ernest Nuamah scoring the goals for the team.

The win mean Ghana have secured a place in the AFCON tournament that will be hosted in Ivory Coast next year.

Seidu is a native of Kumasi in Ghana’s Ashanti Region and got the chance to play his first-ever Black Stars game in front of his home fans for the first time after missing a prior encounter at the same venue against Angola due to injury.

“Me playing in Kumasi, I think it’s a very great experience for me and this is my first time playing in Kumasi so I was so so happy playing in front of my people in Kumasi," the 23-year-old told Ghana FA website.

"Representing my career is a very big privilege for me and it’s a very special thing in my career all footballers are dreaming to play for their motherland. Being born in Kumasi I have a lot of fans in Kumasi," he added.

Ghana will take on Liberia in a friendly game later on today, September 12 at the Accra Sports Stadium.
