Danish Super League side, FC Nordsjaelland, has released a statement following Ernest Nuamah’s move to French Ligue 1 side Olympique Lyon.

Nuamah joined the Danish side from Right to Dream Academy.

However, the 19-year-old has joined the French Ligue 1 side in a deal worth 23 million euros with add-ons and bonuses pushing the deal to 30 million euros and has been handed the 37 jersey.

He becomes the third Ghanaian player to join Lyon. Abedi Pele, Michael Essien and John Mensah played for Lyon at various points in their careers.

Nuamah’s Lyon move is a one-year loan deal with an obligation to buy; Lyon head coach Laurent Blanc earlier confirmed Nuamah’s transfer will be completed this week.

“Ernest has gone through an explosive development, and the great interest means that we feel privileged to have had him in the team throughout the initial part of the season, where he also managed to make a decisive difference.

"He has burned up the Superliga, and the great development, the many recognitions and this change is another example of the synergies and the fantastic education that goes all the way up through the academies and up to the first teams.

"We are always proud to see our academy players take the leap to the next level and he will always be part of the Right to Dream and FCN family. We look forward to that while at the same time, we wish Ernest all the best all the best with the next step and, not least, thank him very much for his efforts and his great influence on the positive development for the team and FC Nordsjælland.“

After joining the Danish side in January 2022, the left-footed forward produced 15 goals and four assists in 34 games in all competitions in the 2022-2023 season and added four goals and an assist in six games this season.
