Former AshantiGold striker, Shaibu Yakubu stated that Asamoah Gyan was not guaranteed that he would have won the Ghana Premier League goal king in 2003 if he had not been going to trials abroad.

Yakubu won the top scorer award in the 2002/03 season and was in fierce competition with Asamoah Gyan at the time.

Gyan made a claim that he was frequently going to trials that was why Shaibu got the edge over him but that was argued out.

“for that Gyan can’t be sure and its not guaranteed. Scoring goals is not by saying, for example, going into a game, you cannot just say I will score,” he told Football Made In Ghana.

“Sometimes you can really work hard in training but in the game you will not be lucky to find the goal”.

“So to say that if not I was going for trials and all that I would have won the goal king at that time, I don’t believe what he is saying”.

“Maybe he could have stayed here and he would have played 10 games continuously without scoring”.

“It is what it is, what was supposed to be happen at that time happened”, Yakubu concluded.
