Italy World Cup winner Tardelli calls for Tavecchio to resign

Italy World Cup winner Marco Tardelli says FIGC president Carlo Tavecchio must resign.

Italian football is reeling after their World Cup playoff failure this week.

Tardelli said: “I think he should have some dignity when making a mistake to admit it and leave, otherwise nothing will change and that could be a true tragedy.

“Italian football must go through a reformation, or at the very least a restructuring process. It cannot continue like this."

Many have called for a cap on foreign imports in Serie A and B, or rules forcing the teams to field a certain number of Italians in the starting XI.

“We must focus on youth and it's not an issue of foreigners, because Germany and Spain have them too. That's not what creates the problem, we probably just need to renovate the league and the Federation training centres that are important for the Nazionale."
