It’s consistency, desire and mentality - Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers on why Amartey starts ahead of Soyuncu

Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers has revealed why Ghana defender Daniel Amartey is starting ahead of Caglar Soyuncu this summer.

Amartey has started all four of the Foxes' Premier League games this season, partnering Jonny Evans.

Soyuncu has not played a single minute in the Premier League this season- his last appearance coming in the defeat at Tottenham last term when he was criticised by manager Brendan Rodgers for losing a 50-50 with Cristian Romero in the build-up to Son Heung-min's first goal.

According to Rodgers, he has been selecting the players who are committed to the club, with Soyuncu a candidate to leave this transfer window after entering the final 12 months of his contract.

"I see them every day in training, so it’s consistency and desire and mentality, all these things. Cags was one who was linked with going away as well, he’s only got a year left on his contract," the former Liverpool manager said as quoted by leicestermercury.co.uk.

"We’ve tried to pick the players we’ve seen in training who are committed to the work, and how they have been working."
