It’s too early to judge Black Stars coach Chris Hughton – Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif

The Minister for Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif believes it will be uncharacteristic to judge Black Stars coach, Chris Hughton now.

The Irish-Ghanaian took over from Otto Addo who resigned after the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The Premier League manager has been in charge of two games since taking over in February, guiding the Black Stars to one win and one draw last month.

Ghana defeated Angola 1-0 at the Baba Yara Stadium before traveling to play a 1-1 draw against the Palancas Negras in Luanda during the 2023 AFCON qualifiers.

Despite starting on a good note, the Member of Parliament for Yagaba-Kubori asserted it is too early to judge the trainer after just two-games.

"The objectives are set by the FA for him to ensure that we qualify for AFCON and also to ensure that we identify local talents from our league. To also ensure that we qualify for the World Cup and also to make sure that our ranking in the FIFA Ranking improves. These are the objectives in the contract that he has signed...,"

“That is why I am saying it is too early to judge him. Judging a coach from two games won’t be fair. Let’s rally behind him and give him all the support he needs so he can deliver”

The Black Stars will be back to action in June for the remaining two AFCON qualifying games against Central Africa Republic and Madagascar.
