Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has warned his former club's fans that there is a chance thatPhilippe Coutinho could leave Merseyside after interest from Barcelona.

The Brazilian international has started the season for the Reds brightly having scored five goals in the club's opening 11 Premier League fixtures, and this hasn't gone unnoticed, with Spanish giants Barcelona naming the player as their number one transfer target.

And according to theDaily Mail, the Kop hero has suggested that it isn't guaranteed that Coutinho will remain at Anfield, and could move away should the right opportunity become available, comparing Liverpool to their city rivals Everton in that respect.

Liverpool have found themselves in a similar position to Everton in recent years," said Carragher.

As Xabi Alonso, Javier Mascherano and Luis Suarez prove, once a superpower shows interest, the end result is a move.

That is how football works and that is why there is a slight concern Philippe Coutinho might be next.

Carragher also commented on remarks made by Everton boss Ronald Koeman, who suggested that Liverpool would mount a title challenge this season, questioning whether the Dutchman should have complimented his team's fiercest rivals.

"As for tipping Liverpool as title contenders," continued Carragher, "I'm sure he has had Everton chairman Bill Kenwright in his ear since those quotations appeared, as Koeman said at dinner this week that he wanted 'anyone but them' to win the league.

He will have got fans back on side with that ” and he sounded like a proper bitter Blue!
