Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen has committed his immediate future to the club by signing a new contract extension that will now keep him at White Hart Lane until 2019.

It comes just 24 hours after Spurs announced a new deal for striker Harry Kane and is the latest in a long line of new contracts signed by numerous other players already this season as the club looks to preserve its assets and continue following an upward trajectory.

"I was very happy, once I put my autograph on the paper I was extremely happy, a big relief," the player said.
