Jeffrey Schlupp insists Crystal Palace can take positives from West Ham defeat

Ghana defender, Jeffrey Schlupp has expressed his belief that Crystal Palace can take positives from the game at West Ham, despite losing out 3-2 at the London Stadium.

The Eagles suffered a second defeat in a row as they were beaten by the Hammers with West Ham coming from behind to turn the game around after James McArthur's opener for the hosts.

And although the 24-year-old pulled a goal back for the Eagles after coming on as a substitute, it was not enough to earn Roy Hodgson's men a point in the London derby.

Nevertheless, the former Leicester City defender said that while there were things for Palace to work on, there were also things to build on from the performance.

"It's another disappointing result, especially when we started the game so well," he told Palace TV.

"Macca [James McArthur] got the goal and we actually looked quite comfortable. West Ham is never an easy place to come to play but I thought we went in at half-time in good nick.

"We're obviously disappointed to come out for the second half and then they get a goal, and two quickfire ones, which kind of killed the game for us.

"We've got positives to take from the game and obviously we've got things to work on. So, we'll work on those and be ready for the game against Leicester.

"We already know what we're capable of doing at home. We played Burnley last week, we got a great result and [had a] great performance. Obviously, with the fans behind us at home - and everyone knows the atmosphere they can create - hopefully they can be our 12th man and get behind us and help us get the result.

For Schlupp, it was a second goal of the season as he scored with a header 14 minutes from time, as he got forward to head home Max Meyer's cross from the left.

And the 25-year-old said he was pleased to contribute after coming off the bench to replace Patrick van Aanholt, after the Palace left-back had picked up an injury in the game.

"I've been ready when called upon to come in and play at left-back or left-wing to help the team when I've needed to," said Schlupp.

"I've had to do that from the bench in recent games but I've been ready and waiting and I've played at left-back before. I played there quite a bit last season and I was ready to slot in there and do the job that Patrick has been doing so well."
