Jesse Lingard Reveals Man Utd's Best and Worst Trainers and Who'd Get Into His Ideal 5-a-Side Team

Manchester United winger Jesse Lingard has lifted the lid on some of the behind-the-scenes training action at the club, naming the club's best and worst trainers, as well as which squad members make into his ideal 5-a-side team, among a number of other intriguing details.

Speaking to FourFourTwo, Lingard named Spanish midfield engine Ander Herrera as the individual who does the most hard work in training. "He gives 100% in everything he does."

Summer signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan was the player he named as always arriving early.

As for the worst trainers who subsequently perform on a matchday, Lingard couldn't choose any as training levels are always so high. You perhaps wouldn't expect anything less under the rule of a manager like Jose Mourinho, though.

"To be fair, most of the lads train very well and then take it into the game. If you have a poor week in training I don't think you can be mentally prepared for the game," the 24-year-old explained.Paul Pogba, however, is still always late for everything.

Veterans Ashley Young and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are apparently the two who are always putting in extra work in the gym. Lingard nodded to Ibrahimovic as the player who scores the best quality goals - 'I remember his first game on tour and he scored an overhead kick' - while the Swede is also apparently United's worst loser and by association the biggest moaner, too.

Zlatan is a born winner and won't settle for anything less, which is probably a good explanation as to why he has improved with age and is still going strong even now at 35.

Marcos Rojo and Eric Bailly are the duo that apparently never give an inch in training, going into tackles just as hard as they would in a real game - "The first few weeks after Bailly arrived he would 'two-foot' everything, everything.''

When it came to naming his preferred 5-a-side team, Lingard opted for David de Gea in goal. He then chose Daley Blind as his defensive player, explaining, "You need a player at the back who is going to be composed and assured on the ball.''

He opted for Pogba in midfield, pointing to 'that bit of flair' the Frenchman provides, as well as Herrera for 'bite', 'energy' and 'aggression'. Up front it was Marcus Rashford, who Lingard believes has 'the skills up top to beat a player and score'.
