Ghana striker Jordan Ayew cut a frustrated figure on the bench as he sat-out Aston Villa's 1-0 loss at Cardiff City today.

Ayew was expected to feature in the game, especially after Villa wrote to the Ghana FA for him to feature in the match before joining Ghana's pre-AFCON camp in theb UAE.

However, Steve Bruce kept him on the substitute bench for the entire duration of the clash even as his side chased for a draw.

His compatriot Albert Adomah who played behind striker Ross McCormack lasted the entire duration of the game.

Adomah was overlooked by Ghana coach Avram Grant for the 2017 AFCON.

Cardiff eased their relegation worries with a win over Championship play-off contenders Villa.

Joe Ralls volleyed Cardiff in front from a corner and the hosts missed a flurry of first-half chances.

Villa rallied as Ross McCormack was denied a goal against his old club when his free-kick was tipped on to the bar by Bluebirds goalkeeper Brian Murphy.

Cardiff held on to climb up to 19th - still three points clear of the bottom three - while Villa drop to 13th.
