Jose Mourinho Gives Up on Fabinho Chase as Manchester United Boss Eyes Alternative

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has reportedly ditched hischase of Monaco star right-back Fabinho.

The Portuguese manager was said to have hadeyes on the Brazilian since the summer, and planned to continue his pursuit in January.

However, Mourinhohas been forced to relent in this particular endeavour, with the French club's Champions League progress making a move less likely.

Monaco are unwilling to sell Fabinho while they remain in the competition, and are sitting pretty at the top of their group, two points ahead of second-placed Bayer Leverkusen.

It's very likely that Monaco will progress to the knockout stages, and that means that Fabinho won't be going anywhere before next summer. The 23-year-old hasalso just signed a contract extension this September, which runs takes his current dealuntil 2021.

The new contract terms are believed to have been part of a plan to prevent United, or rivalsManchester City, from getting the defenderat a cut-price fee.

According toThe Sun, Mourinho has changed focus and is now targetingParis Saint-Germain's Serge Aurier.

The Ivorian bad-boy seems to have made his stay in Paris untenable, and could be available for just £18m.

In September, he washanded a two-month prison sentence for assaulting a police officer, but didn't serve any time behind bars, as the 'convertible sentence' afforded the 23-year-oldthe luxury of doing community service instead.

With Mourinho desperate to sign a right-back to replace Matteo Darmian, it's possible that the former Chelsea boss could make a move in the January window.
