Chris Smalling and Matteo Darmian look set to leave Manchester Unitedafter Jose Mourinho has lost patience with the pair, according to reports intheSun.

Darmian has been out-of favour for much of the season and has long been linked with a move away from Old Trafford after Antonio Valencia has established himself as the first choice right back under Mourinho.

The Italian's relationship with his manager is rumoured to be at an all time low, after Darmian has questioned his exclusion from first team action.

Chris Smalling meanwhile has struggled to build on his impressive form from last year and was publicly criticised by Mourinho several weeks ago.

The United bossquestioned the defender's commitment after he ruled himself out of his team'sprevious Premier League match with Swansea.

Mourinho was left red faced following the incident however after it was revealed that Smalling had suffered a broken toe and will now be sidelined for several weeks.

With United struggling for consistency so far under Mourinho's leadership, the Portuguese is considering selling both Smalling and Darmian, as he looks to reestablish United as genuine title contenders following a couple of disappointing years where their highest finish in the league has been fourth.

The Red Devils were linked with Napoli's £25m ratedElseid Hysaj earlier this week, which would suggest that Mourinho is already identifying candidates to replace the two defenders.

United host Arsenal on Saturday in what appears to be a must win match. The home sideare are six points behind their opponents and a further eight off of leaders Liverpool.

Defeat for Mourinho's men could well spell the end of any title ambitions they have this season and whilst there cause has not been helped with a catalogueof injuries, they must find a way of getting a positive result against the in-form Gunners.
