Jose Mourinho priased Alexis Sanchez following his debut for Manchester United in their FA Cup match against Yeovil.

Jose Mourinho says he decided to extend his stay at Manchester United because he is convinced the club's board can match his ambition.

Earlier this season, the United manager questioned whether the £268 million he has spent on transfers at Old Trafford was enough to compete with runaway Premier League leaders Manchester City.

Since then, United have added Alexis Sanchez to their squad and Mourinho, who has signed an extension until 2020 with the option of another year, is confident the hierarchy are on the same page as they chase success at home and abroad.

"The club wants the same as I want, it's as simple as that," he said. "Owners, board, they have the same ambitions that I have, they have the same desire to improve at every level to make possible that these ambitions in terms of a sporting achievement we can have sooner or later.

"We know stability is very important and we make the decision to sign a contract with this in mind. We believe in each other, we have common goals."

Jose Mourinho took over at Manchester United in 2016.

Mourinho takes his team to Wembley on Wednesday night to face a Tottenham side who have drawn two of their last three games and currently sit fifth in the table.

It is a match that will bring together the Premier League's joint best defence and the league's top scorer in Harry Kane.

His late equaliser in against Newport in the FA Cup on Saturday was his 30th in just 30 games this season.

Mourinho added: "Speaking about Tottenham they are fifth but they are one of the best teams in the league so fifth, fourth, third is not important for the match.

"For the match, most important is the real quality they have."
