Joseph Esso contract saga: Hearts of Oak explain why the striker was not awarded a new deal

Ghana Premier League giants have stated categorically that they were willing to offer Joseph Esso a fresh deal.

Esso, together with four other players left the club two weeks after failing to renew their contract.

Report emerged that the supporters in consultation with the hierarchy of the club have agreed to award a new contract to the former Ebusua Dwarfs forward.

However, Esso's hope of returning to the club has been collapsed after the club failed to reach agreement with the camp of the forward.

According to the Communications Director of the club, Kwame Opare Addo, the striker wanted to sign just a season deal with the club, whilst we were willing to offer him a 2-year deal, hence our inability to renew his contract.

“Money was never an issue in our negotiations with Esso, he wanted to sign for just a season whilst we negotiated for a 2-year deal.

"It wasn’t going to make a business sense for us to have signed him on a year deal. Since we couldn’t reach a compromise we had to let go of him. He told Fox Fm.

The Black Stars 'B' attacker has reportedly agreed personal terms with the Porcupine Warriors ahead of a proposed move, according to a reliable source.

He managed to score three goals in his fourteen (14) game outings for the Rainbow club in the 2019/20 Ghana Premier League season which was cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Esso is one of the highly-rated attackers in the Ghanaian top-flight league following his exploits for the last four seasons.

He was a key member of the Black Stars 'B' squad that won silver medal at the 2019 WAFU Cup held in Senegal.
