Jude Bellingham sends Kobbie Mainoo goodwill message after first major tournament appearance for England

Published on: 17 June 2024

Jude Bellingham has congratulated English-Ghanaian midfielder Kobbie Mainoo for making his competitive debut for England debut and said there is more to come.

Kobbie Mainoo was making just his fourth appearance for the Three Lions as they won 1-0 against Serbia in their opening game of the 2024 European Championships in Germany.

Notably, Mainoo was making his first tournament appearance, and playing in his first competitive match for England.

Introduced as a late 86th minute substitute for Bellingham, Mainoo was not asked to do a lot, with England just trying to see out the 1-0 win.

He did his job, with the Three Lions wrapping up the victory. On Instagram, he described it as ‘a great start to the tournament’.

Mainoo received a message from matchwinner Jude Bellingham, who responded: “Congrats my boy first of many.”

Mainoo closed the door on possibly playing for Ghana after appearing in the game.

Prior to the match on Sunday, Mainoo had only made three uncompetitive appearances for the Three Lions and was still eligible to play for the Black Stars if he decided to.

He was being courted by the Ghana Football Association after making his breakthrough for Man United at the start of the season.
