Jurgen Klopp Believes Liverpool Were Denied Two Penalties in Draw Against West Ham

Jurgen Klopp has said he believes his side were denied up to two penalties in their 2-2 home draw with West Ham - decisions that would've surely won the Reds the game considering James Milner's deadly record from the spot.

Despite taking an early lead, Liverpool were rocked by two goals from West Ham who went in at half-time with a 2-1 lead. Early in the second-half however,Divock Origi levelled the score with his fourth goal in four games for the Reds.

Speaking toSky Sportsafter the game, Klopp said: "I'm pretty sure we could have had one or two penalties given. We have to take it."

The German quickly leapt to the defence of Loris Karius and Joel Matip, who were criticised for the goals, saying:"The first goal was a wonderful free-kick and the second was unlucky.

"We shouldn't have lost the ball before we made the foul for the free-kick. The passes played were deflected and Joel, who played a fantastic game, couldn't clear the ball and then Loris was surprised like everybody.

"It was a big surprise for everybody that we didn't clear it. We scored a wonderful goal and created plenty of offensive situations - we should have had more."

Loris Karius has conceded 6 goals from the last 9 shots on target he's faced in the Premier League.

Klopp continued:"In the second-half we had lots of situations in the box, it felt like we was in their box for the whole game but it's not that simple. It's all about making the right decisions and you need a little bit of luck.

"A draw doesn't feel too good, but it doesn't feel too bad either."

Liverpool remain third but are now seven points behind league leaders Chelsea, who edged further away with a 1-0 win over West Brom. With a midweek fixture against Middlesbrough, the Reds won't have too much time to dwell on what will feel like another two points dropped and Klopp will be hoping that the trend of failing to win without Coutinho does not continue.
