Juventus to discover extent of Bonucci injury on Monday

Juventus will anxiously await the results of tests on Leonardo Bonucci’s ankle after he was forced off against Lazio on Sunday.

The defender was hurt in the game’s opening minutes but remained on the field until he was eventually substituted just before half time and was seen getting onto the team bus on crutches as they left the Stadio Olimpico.

Coach Massimiliano Allegri expressed his concern after the game and revealed that Bonucci had told the team’s doctors that he heard a crashing sound at the point of the injury.

Bonucci will undergo examinations on Monday and Juve will be hoping that it is not as serious as feared, with Medhi Benatia expected to depart the Allianz Stadium before this January transfer window closes.

The club are fearful that the 31-year-old could be sidelined for a month, meaning he could miss their Champions League date with Atletico Madrid on February 20, as well as this coming Wednesday’s Coppa Italia quarter-final meeting with Atalanta in Bergamo.
