Kaka: AC Milan must use Europa League as springboard to success

This season’s Europa League is a vital competition for AC Milan, according to Kaka, who believes the club can use it as a catapult to future glories.

It is a tournament that the Rossoneri are getting a second bite at, having exited in disappointing fashion to Arsenal last season and then even found themselves kicked out of this season’s edition by UEFA before being reinstated upon appeal.

In an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Brazilian explained why he feels a European run is so important for the side this season, while refusing to commit to taking up a permanent position with the revamped club under Leonardo and Paolo Maldini.

“This is a club that is seriously trying to reclaim its place among the greats in football and what we cannot do is neglect the Europa League,” said the former Ballon d’Or winner.

“Particularly when the teams are eliminated from the Champions League and drop into the competition, it is a really fascinating tournament and I think that winning it would be fundamental.

“I have no idea what is next for me with the club because I’m still in Brazil with my family and I can’t imagine taking a specific work commitment but I would like to do more for Milan in the future so it is a matter of time.”

Kaka is also a former teammate of Serie A’s newest superstar Cristiano Ronaldo during their time together at Real Madrid and he welcomed the news of the Portuguese star’s arrival.

“For Italian football, it is great to have him as he brings better visibility, more sponsors, media interest from all over the world, he is a real champion and I think that Cristiano brings so much to Italy as a whole, not just Juventus,” added Kaka.
