Keita: I’m at Inter to be a key player

When he made a summer move to Inter, Keita Balde has insisted that he did not do so simply to make up their squad numbers and is determined to play an important part.

The Nerazzurri’s seventh summer signing joined from Monaco as he returned to Serie A following a previous successful spell with Lazio and was presented officially on Thursday.

He admitted that it didn’t take much to convince him to move to the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza and is hungry and motivated to force his way into Luciano Spalletti’s plans.

“When you get an offer like this, then it isn’t difficult to accept. I thank Monaco because I had a great time there but I’m also grateful to Inter for the effort they’ve shown trying to sign me,” he said.

“I didn’t think twice about it because I’ve always liked this club. They wanted me three years ago so I’m excited. I think that I can play anywhere across the attack and it is important for me to play.

“I always want to be a main player, help the team by playing and show my value. It is a league that I know well, although it is a difficult one.”

He also insisted the mood in the squad hasn’t been unduly hurt by their opening weekend defeat at Sassuolo, although he refused to discuss their potential to be Scudetto challengers.

“Everyone is ready for the next game now and one defeat isn’t enough to think negatively. What I see here is a determined and confident group,” he revealed.

“In terms of the Scudetto, in the end the math and the table will show it but we want to go into every game trying to win.”
