Premier League referee Kevin Friend found himself on the sharp end of a social media frenzy regarding his shoddy afternoon at Old Trafford as he officiated Manchester United's 1-1 draw with Eddie Howe's Bournemouth.
The media, courtesy ofThe Sun, depicts a hapless Friend, as he was savagely trolled on Twitter predominantly.
Kevin Friend may have had his priorities a little mixed up on Saturday afternoon.
The referrer managed to disregard a frankly disgusting episode between Bournemouth defender Tyrone Mings and United target man Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The two players were both involved in a head stamping, elbow wielding five minutes, remarkably to which neither player earned themselves a card.
On any other day, under any other official, the two players in question would both be serving lengthy bans on the sideline.
Mings' previous skull studding incident on Ibrahimovic, intended or not, would have demanded the same kind of punishment Ibrahimovic should have earned himself after his spiteful resulting elbow.
Friend did indeed brandish one red card however. Bournemouth's Andrew Surman was sent to the dressing room after a second yellow, the Cherries midfielder shoved Ibrahimovic to the floor in retaliation to the big Swede's callous elbow which sent Mings tumbling to the turf.
This was in fact after Ibrahimovic had to remind the clueless Friend of Surman's previous yellow card.
United were also awarded an innocuous penalty in the second half after nothing more than a simple ball to hand situation.
Redemption was restored however. Ibrahimovic was no match for Artur Boruc, who flung himself down to his right hand side to deflect the tame effort wide.
The tie which was billed to be a thriller certainly lived up to expectation. But sadly, the match was marred by the unfathomable judgement calls from a referee who seemed to be out of his depth.

In conclusion, we're not too sure if Kevin Friend will be winning any refereeing accolades anytime soon.
