Kevin Kilbane Blasts Arsenal's Granit Xhaka for Doing 'Stupid' Things After Gifting Stoke Penalty

Football pundit Kevin Kilbane has criticised Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka for 'always doing something stupid' during games after the player gave away a cheap penalty on Saturday against Stoke City.

The Switzerland international certainly has got stuck in to the physical side of the Premier League since his £30m summer switch, already picking up a red card in a Gunners shirt this season, and most recently gifted the Potters a spot-kick after a reckless elbow on Joe Allen in his own box during the side's game this weekend at the Emirates.

Luckily for Xhaka, it didn't cost his team, with the north London outfit coming from behind to beat Mark Hughes' side 3-1 to climb to the summit of the league, however, according toBBC Sport, Kilbane believes the 24-year-old has a very clumsy element about him that could cost Arsenal later on in the season.

"It looked like a penalty to me initially, because Granit Xhaka goes over the top on Joe Allen," said the former Everton man.

"Xhaka does something stupid every game he plays in, he's on the edge for no reason."

The Swiss box-to-box midfielder has made just eight starting appearances for the Gunners this season, but has began to feature more regularly with the injury to Santi Cazorla, and boss Arsene Wenger will hope Xhaka can settle down as a permanent figure in his Arsenal side gunning for the title as the new year approaches.
