Key Man Utd Midfielder Reveals Club Are Yet to Begin Talks on Extending Expiring Contract

Manchester United may appear to be wedged inextricably in sixth place in the Premier League table, but midfielder Ander Herrera has admitted that he and his teammates are still aiming to finish above rivals Manchester City and Liverpool.

Recent dips in form for a couple of title challengers have left the Reds and Arsenal just one and two points above United respectively, with City a further two points up the road - but Herrera admitted that Klopp's side, at least, have an advantage on his own.

Today I've just realised I met that guy 8 years ago... 😉 Hoy me he dado cuenta de que hace 8 años que conozco a este tío... ;) pic.twitter.com/v09qVbPNe5

Quoted by theIndependentat a Tag Heuer event this week, Herrera said:I cannot lie.For our fans it would be special to finish above them, but they are very good teams and I think it will be very tough. We believe in our qualities and we can do it, but we have to respect them as well because they are very good teams. Liverpool are not playing for another competition, so they will be very focused on the league.

The Spaniard also admitted that the club are yet to open talks with him about a possible contract extension, despite his current deal running out at the end of next season.I have nothing to talk about, he said. Of course, if they want to talk with me, I will be very happy to do that. But so far, nothing.

65 “ Ander Herrera has made more interceptions (65) and tackles (58) than any other Man Utd player in the PL this season. Industrious.

Having become a key part of Jose Mourinho's midfield over the course of the season, the club may be wary of losing the 27-year-old on the cheap in the summer. Herrera continued:Since the beginning of the season in a few games my role changes.

He (Mourinho) has helped me a lot to get the knowledge about that role. I am so happy to be a bit more of a defensive player than last season. I can share my energy with the team in that position and I am very happy. He is helping me a lot, but not only me. The team is playing very good.
