Klopp not expecting Liverpool departures

Jurgen Klopp says he is not expecting to lose any of his first-team regulars this summer and is excited by his current squad.

The Reds have splashed the cash to add midfield trio Fabinho, Naby Keita and Xherdan Shaqiri to their ranks this transfer window and are expected to complete the record signing of Roma goalkeeper Alisson Becker in the coming days.

Klopp is hopeful the new additions will mean Liverpool can challenge on all fronts this season having made the Champions League final last term but at the expense of fighting for domestic honours.

Entering his third year as manager at Anfield, the German coach has yet to deliver any silverware but appears optimistic that will change.

Having seen Philippe Coutinho depart for Barcelona during the January transfer, Klopp is hopeful of keeping hold of all his stars players this summer with Emre Can's move to Juventus the only notably departure thus far.

"Maybe it is the first year we don't sell a key player. There was always a lot of change, but in both directions," he said.

"Now it is more in one direction. Big teams, successful teams, if you don't buy it, you have to build it. That means stay together, bring additions in and make the next step."

While he is not planning to let any of his big names leaves, Klopp admits Liverpool will need to trim down their squad before the start of the new season in August with the likes of Danny Ings and Daniel Sturridge expected to depart.

"Of course we have to," he said when quizzed about moving players on. "We cannot go with 35-40 players. We need a lot of players but not 40."

Liverpool are 9/2 to win the Premier League title this season while they are 14/1 to go one better in the Champions League.
