Hearts of Oak legend, Charles Taylor has praised newly appointed Black Stars, Chris Hughton following his decision to monitor players in the ongoing Ghana Premier League.

The former Premier League manager who has signed a 21-month deal has been to some venues to watch matches in a bid to draft some local players into the Black Stars.

He was spotted at the Black Meteors game against Algeria at the Baba Yara Stadium in the CAF U-23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

On Sunday, the 64-year-old was spotted at the game between Great Olympics and Berekum Chelsea, taking notes.

Taylor, who is a Ghana football legend believes that Chris Hughton has shown that he has the development of local players at heart and will go to every length to motivate them,

“Chris Hughton must be given a long-term project because he is very knowledgeable. When you have good coaches like Chris, it motivates the players," he told Accra-based Angle TV.

"When the players see him in the stands, they get motivated because they know it’s a chance for them to stake a claim for roles in the Black Stars. It will help our various national teams and the local league improve.

“What I like most is that he is not restricting his visits to only Accra and Kumasi. We should give him the team and allow him to make all the decisions. He is doing the job and must be commended for the good work," he added.

Chris Hughton began his Black Stars journey last month, winning his debut game against Angola in a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] qualifier before holding the Palancas Negras in the reverse leg in Luanda to a 1-1 drawn game.

The former Newcastle United and Brighton boss will be hoping to steer the side to win the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast next year.
