Kosta Papic favoured some players at Hearts of Oak - Skipper Fatawu Mohammed claims

Hearts of Oak skipper, Fatawu Mohammed, says former coach Kosta Papic favoured some squad players during his tenure at the club

The Serbian gaffer parted ways with the club after just two months in charge.

Coach Papic took charge of the Phobians in November 2020, and guided them to 10 matches in the Ghanaian Premier League where he won four, drew three and lost three.

He cited personal reasons for his decision and turned down several pleas from board members to stay. His assistant, Joseph Asare Bediako also resigned from his post last week, as well as, the goalkeepers’ trainer, Ben Owu.

Fans of the club blamed the board for Papic’s exit and organized a demonstration on Wednesday morning to register their displeasure.

Mohammed, who was at the presser organized by the club yesterday explained the nature of Papic’s discrimination.

"The thing about the favoritism is that some of the players felt they were ready to play matches but they were never given the chance," the 28-year-old said at a presser yesterday.

"Others felt that, injured players who were out of the team for long spells, were immediately restored into the starting eleven once they returned to fitness. As a result, some players felt they were not getting rewarded for all the hard work they put in training.

"If someone is 100% fit and training each day, and another goes out injured for one or two months and on their return, they are easily restored to the first eleven, some players didn’t think it was fair," he said.

U-15 coach Samuel Nii Noi, will take charge of the team on interim basis as the club continue to search for a permanent coach.
