La Liga Announce Revolutionary Social Media Viewing for Friday Night Fixtures

Published on: 17 February 2017

A few weeks back, the subject of technology in La Liga was under huge scrutiny from the footballing community.

Barcelona's now famous 'ghost goal' against away to Real Betis set in motion a debate which highlighted the Spanish division's lack of advances in the area.

No goal-line technology hinted towards the inferiority complex compared with the global entity that is the Premier League, but now, La Liga has hit back with an advance of its own.

That's right, one of Europe's elite leagues will now broadcast their Friday night fixtures on social media platform, Facebook - another wad of cash in Mark Zuckerberg's already bulging wallet.

Granada and Real Betis were the first game utilised in the revolutionary idea and fans were well and truly treated after a hugely entertaining game.

The former ran out 4-1 winners with Manchester United loanee, Andreas Pereira, scoring the third goal before being sent off in the latter stages of the fixture.

Adrian Ramos, who joined Granada on loan from Borussia Dortmund in January, netted his first goals for the club with a sensational brace.

After the Mexican Football League announced they would stream over 40 fixtures on Facebook recently, social media viewing seems to be the next step in football's progression.

The success of La Liga's broadcasting experiment will be closely monitored by other leagues and who knows, in the near future, we may see some Premier League games in the same format.

Actually, maybe not...
