La Liga Giants Set to Battle it Out for Unsettled Chelsea Striker Diego Costa

Two of Spain's biggest clubs are expected to go toe-to-toe in the summer over Chelsea striker Diego Costa, as uncertainty continues to surround his future.

Various news outlets have reported that Atletico Madrid and Barcelona will try to capitalise on the player's unsettled stateby swooping to take him away from Stamford Bridge in the next transfer window.

It is expected that Manchester United will make a world-record bid to sign Atletico striker Antoine Griezmann, and Diego Simeone is understood to want Costa to replace him should he depart.

Barcelona on the other hand look set to miss out on the title this season, with Real Madrid in seemingly unstoppable league form. Luis Suarez turns 30 later this month and with the poor form of Neymar, it could prompt Luis Enrique to try and tempt Costa back to La Liga.

The Spaniard's head was reportedlyturned last week after a club from the Chinese Super League came in for him with a staggeringoffer of more than £500k-per-week in wages.

The Independent claims Chelsea have no intention of selling Costa inthe current window, but will still brace themselves for any offer for the player.

The paper alsoclaims Costa had been open about his desire to return to the Vicente Calderon only last summer, after a poor season in which he was much-maligned.

He said at the time: "I had the possibility to go to Atletico, because of a few things, the family, the life I have there but not because of Chelsea, because, here, there's a lot of love with the supporters, with the people, so I'm here very happy."

The hitman's future is certainly up in the air for now and it remains to be seen which direction the player takes should he actually leave Chelsea.

Could it be the financial lure of the Far East, or a romantic return to the club where he made his name? Or perhaps he will surprise everybody and embark on a new chapter with Lionel Messi and co.
