Lack of maturity and experience cost Togo against Nigeria - Former Black Stars coach Claude Leroy

Togo's veteran coach Claude Leroy has attributed his team's 3-0 defeat to the Super Eagles of Nigeria in Thursday's international friendly to lack of experience.

Three first half goals by Ahmed Musa, who bagged a brace in the third and 17th minute, and a solitary strike by Kelechi Iheanacho on 27 minutes, secured the win for the Super Eagles.

Both teams used the game as part of their preparation towards next weekend's 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Reacting to the defeat, Leroy hailed the promise shown by some individuals in his team.

"We lack the maturity, the experience, but there is talent in this team. Some like little Nyavedji have never even played a championship game ," Leroy who guarded Cameroon to win the 1988 AFCON title, told Togo Football Federation (FTF) official website.

Leroy however played down the defeat stating that it will only motivate his players.

He added:"Despite the defeat, this match will allow them (Togo) to gain a little confidence."
