Lamela eager to grasp Spurs opportunity

Erik Lamela says Tottenham's clash with Manchester City is a great chance for the club to make a big statement regarding their title ambitions this season.

Spurs welcome the reigning champions to Wembley on Monday night looking for the win that would see them move above Pep Guardiola's men in the Premier League standings.

The fixture marks the start of a potential pivitol run for the north London outfit as they face West Ham two days later in the EFL Cup before a tricky league clash at Wolves.

Tottenham then take on PSV Eindhoven on 6th November in a game that could define whether they remain the Champions League beyond the end of the year.

However, the focus for now is on the clash with the Citizens, who are 8/15 to retain their crown this season, while Spurs are 33/1.

The reigning champions have been in ominous form through their first nine games, scoring the most goals in the Premier League, while also conceding the fewest at the other end.

City proved too good for Spurs last season, winning home and away, but Lamela is hopeful they can turn the tables on Guardiola’s men, believing it is an opportunity to team can not afford to pass up.

“Obviously if we win we’re going to be a point above City and that would be ideal. They are a great team but this is a huge opportunity to get to the top, where we want to be,” he said.

“The good thing is we’re playing locally and have our people there supporting us. That’s going to be really good and will help.

“We’re going to go for the win. That’s what we’re seeking. We’re going to try and stay on that streak of victories that we’ve been having in the Premier League.”

Dele Alli could make a welcome return for Spurs against City after missing the last four game through injury.

However, Danny Rose and Jan Vertonghen are both unavailable for the clash at Wembley.

Spurs are 15/4 to get the better of City, who are 3/4 with the draw 31/10.
