Lazio have signed former Juventus and Southampton defender Martin Caceres from Hellas Verona.

The 30-year-old Uruguayan only arrived at Verona last August but their Serie A rivals have now recruited the centre-back and handed him a one-year contract.

A statement published on Lazio's official website on Monday announced the transfer.

Caceres joined Verona after being released following half a season at Southampton, where he made only one appearance.

The Uruguay international won four league titles and an Italian Cup in his second spell at Juventus but his contract was not renewed when it expired in June 2016 after injury problems.

Caceres has also played for Barcelona and Sevilla.

Lazio is fourth in Serie A, 11 points behind leader Napoli.
