English Championship side, Leeds United are set to offload Caleb Ekuban to Albania, according to Albanian outlet Panorama Sport.
Striking outcast Caleb Ekuban could be handed a surprise route out of Elland Road before the European transfer window closes next week, as Panorama Sport states Albanian side Flamurtari Vlore have approach Leeds regarding a loan deal.
The 24-year-old has struggled to impress at Elland Road since his arrival in a £500,000 deal last summer, scoring just once in 20 Championship appearances, and has been made a surplus to requirements by new Peacocks boss Marcelo Bielsa.
However, finding suitors for the Italian has proven to be difficult following his struggles in England, but the club’s prayers may have been answered heading into the final week of the transfer window on the continent.
Eyebrows were raised when Victor Orta brought Ekuban to Elland Road, as the striker did not have any experience at a top level and came to the club with a record of 18 goals in 42 games for Albanian club Partizani Tirana.
Leeds’ gamble certainly did not pay off and an option to send the 24-year-old back to Albania, to a club prepared to pay half of his wages, is too good an opportunity to turn down as there is seemingly no chance of Ekuban rejuvenating his Leeds career.
He stands as further evidence that Leeds need to be very careful and wise with their transfer dealings, especially as Ebukan has a further three years remaining on his contract according to TransferMarkt.
