The Leicester Mercury says the Foxes have lodged their appeal to Fifa as they attempt to complete their £22 million signing of Silva.

Leicester thought they had secured the move for the Sporting Lisbon midfielder on deadline day, only for their attempts to register the Portugal international to be blocked by Fifa.

City's paperwork arrived with the FA 14 seconds after the deadline, having asked for a two-hour extension to complete the deal.

Silva has been unable to train with his potential Leicester team-mates while the club planned their appeal.
